As part of my DIY master’s, I’m learning about communication strategy and behaviour change—in the service of a changing planet.

“How the Other Half Lives”

The cow has become a symbol of animal agriculture gone wrong. And yet, many of us support the industry—myself included. So, I decided to run an experiment: what would it take to convince me otherwise?

Changing Minds at City Hall

“You have 3 minutes. Go.”

Recently, the city of Vancouver decided to revisit the use of natural gas—specifically, whether or not we should use it for heat and hot water in new builds.

I had a million plans, bombed nearly all of them, gave a 3 minute speech at city hall, and may have made a difference.

Misinformation

It all started at city hall.

Food for Thought

When it comes to cows and I, it’s complicated.

For years, I've known that some of the things we eat—like beef and cheese—have a big carbon footprint. And yet, I've kept eating them.

Since I’ve been learning about behaviour change recently, I decided to put it to the test: what would it take for me to cut back?
